EL ROW A FESTIVAL COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABILITY

Music festivals are here to stay, and that is why they strive to become more sustainable every year. Like any socio-economic activity, they generate an environmental impact through their operations.

Due to their nature, festivals have a series of negative effects on the environment, as they involve multiple businesses from various sectors along with a large number of attendees.

At Elrow XXL, we are fully aware of this responsibility as one of the leading festivals in the industry. Therefore, we not only have the duty to change how we interact with the environment but also to be part of the change and pass on these values to society and our followers by leading by example.

Our philosophy is to reduce waste festival by festival, improving waste separation, increasing recycling rates, and minimizing our impact and carbon footprint compared to previous editions. Every change, no matter how small, brings us closer to our goal of zero emissions.

The actions we are improving and implementing festival by festival include:

  • Training for bar employees: We provide training sessions to enhance waste separation at the bars. We have also implemented a new operational system to improve waste management and minimize our carbon footprint.

  • Social & Green Corner: We offer workshops on recycling and sustainability for festival attendees. Additionally, we support a campaign to protect shearwater birds, as this period coincides with their breeding season.

  • Encouraging Circularity through Sustainable Design: We promote sustainability with our suppliers and through an agreement with the University of La Laguna. We use sustainable and recycled materials for the construction of stages, installations, and other infrastructure.

  • Collaboration with NGOs: We partner with non-governmental organizations from the third sector to support social causes, allocate part of the festival’s income to sustainable initiatives, and promote inclusive employment.

  • Promotion of Public Transport: We encourage the use of public transportation through an agreement with Titsa, reducing the carbon emissions of attendees.

  • Promotion of Local and Organic Products: We support the consumption of locally and organically produced food, reducing transportation needs and the environmental impact associated with industrial food production.

  • Carbon Footprint Measurement and Compensation:

    • Impact Measurement: We monitor and measure the festival’s environmental impact, including the carbon footprint, to identify areas for improvement.

    • Emission Compensation: We have an agreement with the Foresta Foundation to create the Confeti Festival AIE forest, promoter of Elrow XXL. Through this initiative, we implement carbon offset programs by planting Monteverde trees in the Canary forests to balance the emissions generated by the event.
